Wedding Entertainment at the Nottingham Marriott – A Unique Guest Experience

Weddings in Nottingham often bring together guests from different parts of the UK, many of whom may not know each other before the day begins. One of the most important parts of the celebration is the drinks reception, where guests are socialising while the couple is having photographs taken. I recently performed at a wedding at the Nottingham Marriott on the 11th January, where close-up magic was used not only to entertain guests, but also to create something lasting from the day.

Creating a Shared Experience During the Drinks Reception

As part of the performance, I introduced something slightly different. Instead of a traditional guestbook, guests were invited to:
• sign their name on a playing card
• leave a short message for the couple.
As the performance continued throughout the drinks reception, more and more guests contributed. Once 52 guests had signed and personalised the cards, the full deck became a complete, personalised set — effectively turning it into a mini magical guestbook. The cards were then transformed and presented as a unique keepsake for the couple. 9/10 of my many Nottingham wedding couples have thanked me for the special personal touch i added for their wedding.

Why This Worked So Well at a Nottingham Wedding

At weddings in Nottingham, especially at venues like the Nottingham Marriott, the drinks reception is often one of the most social parts of the day. Guests are relaxed, moving between groups and open to interaction. This made it the ideal moment to combine: • entertainment

• guest interaction

• a personalised outcome rather than just watching a performance, guests became part of something that contributed to the couple’s wedding day in a meaningful way.

Why Drinks Reception Magic Is So Effective

From performing at 75+ weddings, the drinks reception remains the most popular time for close-up magic. It works particularly well because:

• guests are naturally socialising

• there is a pause in the schedule

• the couple is often unavailable during photos At venues across Nottingham, this is the moment where entertainment can have the biggest impact on atmosphere.

Planning Wedding Entertainment in Nottingham

When planning a wedding in Nottingham, it’s worth considering how entertainment can fit into the structure of the day — particularly during the drinks reception. Adding interactive elements that involve guests can elevate the experience beyond traditional formats.
